Dishwashing - SmartSolve - Water Soluble Materials

Dishwashing

Automatic dishwashers were once a luxury—only 3% of U.S. households owned one in 1950. But by the 2000s, they became a kitchen staple, and so did the products that came with them. Powdered detergents gave way to gels and eventually single-use tablets and pods, often wrapped in plastic-based films like PVOH. While these formats offer convenience, questions remain about their environmental impact—particularly around microplastics and biodegradability.

Today, consumers and brands alike are rethinking dishwashing with sustainability in mind. Conventional liquid and gel detergents are often overpackaged and water-heavy, contributing to unnecessary shipping emissions and plastic waste. Even many tablets come in laminated pouches or containers that are difficult to recycle.

Our water-soluble paper-based materials are 100% biodegradable and microplastic-free. Tested to the FG 502 flushability standard, our X-Series pouch stock disperses quickly— less than 30 seconds with a small amount of agitation. And we didn’t stop there, our latest advancement, PureNil™ 0, is 100% bio-based (zero plastic) and perfectly suited for dishwashing.
