How PureNil™ 0 Water-Soluble Pouch Stock Works

SmartSolve PureNil™0 combines FSC-certified wood pulp fibers with a proprietary 100% bio-based heat-sealable coating. Unlike traditional plastic films or PVOH-based materials, every component of PureNil™0 is derived from renewable materials with zero plastic content.

The outer paper layer provides structural integrity and printability during manufacturing and use, while the bio-based heat-seal layer creates secure, hermetic seals on form-fill-seal equipment. When the pouch contacts water, both layers disperse completely in 6-7 seconds with minimal agitation, leaving zero microplastics behind.

PureNil™0 is our first direct food contact capable material for lower barrier requirements, making it ideal for snack packaging, confectionery wraps, powdered drink mixes, and single-use food applications.

SmartSolve PureNil™0 is compatible with existing form-fill-seal equipment, making the switch from plastic pouches seamless. The material accepts flexographic and digital printing with water-based inks,[1] delivering professional print quality while maintaining complete biodegradability.

True bio-based packaging should be certified per ASTM D6866 standards, which measures the percentage of renewable content, with 100% bio-based materials containing zero fossil fuel-derived components or microplastics.

PureNil™0 is 100% bio-based with zero plastic content and uses a proprietary plastic-free heat-seal technology with no PVOH or PVA. X-Series is 75% bio-based and uses a PVOH heat-seal coating. PureNil™0 is our first direct food contact capable material, making it ideal for snack packaging applications where X-Series is not suitable.

PureNil™0 also provides end-of-life optionality: composting, recycling, or water dissolution.
