How SmartSolve Water-Soluble Label Stock Works

SmartSolve Label Stock is engineered from FSC-certified wood pulp fibers bonded with a natural cellulose binder and coated with a water-soluble pressure-sensitive adhesive. When the label contacts water, both the facestock and adhesive dissolve instantly.

Unlike traditional pressure-sensitive labels with plastic liners and permanent adhesives, our label stock leaves zero microplastics behind and eliminates liner waste entirely. The dispersed wood pulp fibers are completely safe for drains and wastewater systems, and naturally biodegrade within 30 days through microbial action.

SmartSolve Label Stock is a printable, hassle-free labeling solution that performs like traditional paper labels during application and use. SmartSolve label stock is drain-safe, then disappears completely when containers are washed, eliminating label removal hassle and supporting circular packaging systems.

Yes. SmartSolve 3PT Pressure-Sensitive Label Stock works with standard flexographic, digital, and thermal transfer printers using water-based inks. Our 4PT Direct Thermal Label Stock is specifically designed for Zebra, Datamax, Sato, and other thermal printer brands. We recommend reviewing our Best Practices documents before placing full orders.

SmartSolve is a raw material supplier, so our label stock is available in roll form rather than pre-cut. While we don’t offer die cutting directly, we work with partners who can — so if you need that service, we’re happy to point you in the right direction.

SmartSolve Label Stock is compatible with flexographic printing, digital printing, thermal transfer printing, and direct thermal printing (4PT specification). We recommend water-based or soy-based inks to maintain complete biodegradability and eco-friendly credentials. UV-cured inks and solvent-based inks are not recommended as they may compromise the water-soluble properties.

SmartSolve Label Stock materials are manufactured in compliance with FDA indirect food contact regulations and contain no PFAS, BPA, or phthalates. However, final label constructions (including inks and adhesives) must be evaluated for your specific application. We recommend working with your regulatory team to ensure complete compliance for direct food contact labeling applications.
