Founded by actress and entrepreneur Cara Santana Leto, Lil Luv Dog is redefining the $100-billion-a-year pet industry by delivering premium grooming products in eco-friendly, plastic-free packaging. Each product is formulated with EWG-verified ingredients and packaged using SmartSolve’s water-soluble technology — a combination that’s as kind to pets as it is to the planet.
“We wanted to create products that are as clean for pets as they are kind to the planet,” said Cara Santana Leto. “SmartSolve’s bio-based, dissolvable packaging immediately reduces waste, and that’s exactly the impact we were looking for.”
The Challenge: Reducing Plastic Waste in Pet Care
Traditional pet-care products often rely on plastic bottles, tubes, and containers — most of which end up in landfills or oceans. Cara and her co-founder Stephanie Suganami set out to change that. Their goal? Design a sustainable packaging system that not only looked beautiful but also eliminated single-use plastic entirely.
After researching compostable and dissolvable options, Lil Luv Dog discovered SmartSolve’s water-soluble materials, a certified bio-based material that disperses in water in seconds!
The SmartSolve Solution
Lil Luv Dog partnered with SmartSolve to develop dissolvable sachets for its signature Dry Dog Shampoo — a first-of-its-kind format in pet grooming.
Each sachet can be used once, then dissolved in the sink or toilet post-use, providing pet parents with a clean, convenient, and zero-waste experience. Alongside these sachets, the brand also uses fully compostable wood-pulp vessels, creating a dual-format approach to sustainable packaging.

From Launch to Retail Success
Since launching in August 2025, Lil Luv Dog has quickly gained recognition across the beauty and sustainability communities. The brand is already available online and in select independent retailers, including Pop Up Grocer (New York City) and Today George (San Francisco), with more stores on the way.
Their marketing mantra, “Tall print, small print — minimizing environmental impact through compostable packaging and bio-based ingredients,” highlights the brand’s transparent, planet-first approach.
Lil Luv Dog also plans to pursue Climate Neutral Certification as part of its ongoing sustainability journey — further validating its commitment to responsible packaging and product design.
