SmartSolve in Path of Totality
SmartSolve’s chemist, Dr. Firew Gemeda, Ph.D., weighs in to discuss the upcoming solar eclipse that will take place in select areas across the United States on April 8th, 2024. Dr. Gemeda has written a book describing this spectacle, called The Sun of Righteousness, which draws parallels between the physical sun and the spiritual son. We are very excited to share a little bit more about his amazing work as we look forward to the upcoming solar eclipse.
Bowling Green State University (BGSU) describes this solar eclipse by explaining, “On April 8th, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross the United States from coast to coast, and Bowling Green, Ohio will be in the path of totality. This means we will have the best view of the eclipse, as the moon passes directly between the Earth and the sun, completely covering the sun and casting its shadow onto the surface of the Earth.” This eclipse is the subject of Dr. Gemeda’s book, discussing the eclipse of the natural world in tandem with the eclipse of the spiritual.
Dr. Gemeda earned his MSc in Physical Chemistry from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. He subsequently pursued an MChem degree and a Ph.D. in photochemical sciences at Bowling Green State University, Ohio. Throughout his educational endeavors, he pursued his science study on the subject of light.
This led our president of SmartSolve, Jonathan Jakubowski, to approach Dr. Gemeda about writing an informational book on the subject of light and how this relates to the solar eclipse that will be seen on April 8th. Further, the book will include information about the spiritual eclipse of humanity, as it relates to the Christian faith and Jesus Christ, who is referred to as “the sun of righteousness” in the Bible.
New Book: The Sun of Righteousness
Dr. Gemeda found his inspiration for The Sun of Righteousness originating from the Bible in the book of Malachi 4:2, which says, “But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing it its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall” (English Standard Version). This relates to how prophets within the Old Testament refer to the coming of Jesus Christ as a star, or a great light.
Making the connection between the solar eclipse that will be seen on April 8th, and a spiritual eclipse, Dr. Gemeda said that in the Bible (James 1:17), God is described as the father of lights, referring to both the natural world and the divine nature of God himself. This is explained further within the book of Genesis 1:3, as God said, “Let there be light.”
Dr. Gemeda also explained the connection between the light of God and the idea of a total spiritual eclipse for humanity, which Jesus removed in the year 33 AD, through His death on a cross and resurrection from the grave, resulting in light and abundant life for those who receive His free gift of salvation, according to John 3:16 in the Bible.
Dr. Gemeda explained that the part of the solar eclipse event he is most looking forward to is seeing the connection between the physical eclipse and the spiritual eclipse, as we recognize the interaction between the two and watch it unfold. He described this as, “the passing of the time of darkness, and the coming of light.” Dr. Gemeda has also expressed that, “When you understand the state of human beings in the absence of God, you can then understand that our Sun of Righteousness, our Jesus, came and removed darkness for us.”
