Business Development Manager
Summary of Position:
The Business Development Manager is responsible for building, executing, and optimizing the company’s new business prospecting engine. This role owns top-of-funnel performance, including lead generation strategy, outbound prospecting programs, and team development.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Sales & Marketing, the BDM leads Sales Development Representatives (SDRs) and/or interns, sets activity benchmarks, and drives consistent pipeline creation through high-volume, high-quality outreach.
Key Responsibilities:
- 1. Prospecting Strategy & Program Development
- Design and execute a scalable new business development program focused on outbound lead generation
- Define target markets, ideal customer profiles (ICP), and prospecting strategies
- Partner with marketing to align outbound efforts with campaigns and inbound lead flow
- Continuously refine messaging, targeting, and outreach strategies to improve conversion rates
- 2. SDR Team Leadership & Development
- Recruit, hire, and onboard SDRs and/or interns
- Train team members on prospecting best practices, tools, and messaging
- Establish daily, weekly, and monthly activity benchmarks (calls, emails, meetings set)
- Lead by example with high call volume and hands-on prospecting activity
- Coach team members to improve performance, confidence, and results
- Support outsourced lead generation partnerships to ensure ROI
- 3. Pipeline Generation & Market Penetration
- Own and deliver on qualified lead (SQL/meeting) targets
- Drive market penetration within defined industries, verticals, or target accounts
- Ensure consistent handoff of qualified opportunities to Account Executives
- Support Account-Based Marketing (ABM) initiatives through targeted outbound efforts
- 4. Performance Management & Reporting
- Track and report on key prospecting KPIs:
- Call volume and activity levels
- Meetings booked
- Conversion rates (lead → meeting → opportunity)
- Maintain accurate data and reporting within systems such as HubSpot or equivalent CRM
- Hold team accountable to company benchmarks and performance standards
- Track and report on key prospecting KPIs:
- 5. Process Optimization & Tools
- Implement and optimize outbound tools (sequencing, dialing, data platforms)
- Continuously test and improve outreach messaging and cadences
- Ensure clean data practices and proper CRM usage across the team
- 6. All other areas as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field
- 2-3+ years of experience in business development, SDR leadership, or inside sales
- Proven success in outbound prospecting and pipeline generation
- Experience managing or mentoring SDRs or junior sales talent
- Strong familiarity with CRM and sales engagement tools (e.g., HubSpot)
Customer Service Representative (CSR)
Summary of Position:
The Customer Service Representative is responsible for delivering a seamless, white-glove customer experience by managing order execution and serving as the critical bridge between customers and internal teams, including operations and material planning.
This role ensures that customer orders are processed accurately, fulfilled efficiently, and communicated proactively—while aligning internal teams to deliver on customer expectations. Reporting to the Senior Director of Sales & Marketing, this position plays a key role in customer satisfaction, retention, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- 1. Order Management & Execution
- Manage end-to-end order processing, including:
- Order entry and validation, order tracking and status updates, invoicing coordination
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all customer orders
- Monitor order flow to proactively identify and resolve issues

- Serve as a primary point of contact for customer inquiries and support

- Ensure every interaction reflects a premium, responsive customer experience
- Serve as a primary point of contact for customer inquiries and support
- 3. Cross-Functional Coordination (“Connecting the Dots”):
- Act as the liaison between:
- Customers, Sales (Account Executives)
- Operations / production, Material planning / supply chain
- Translate customer needs into clear internal requirements
- Ensure alignment between what is sold, ordered, and delivered
- Proactively escalate and resolve cross-functional issues
- Act as the liaison between:
- 4. Issue Resolution & Problem Solving
- Identify and resolve order discrepancies, delays, or fulfillment challenges
- Coordinate internally to troubleshoot and prevent recurring issues
- Take ownership of problems until full resolution
- 5. Process Improvement & Operational Excellence
- Identify opportunities to improve order flow, communication, and efficiency
- Help implement best practices and standard operating procedures
- Support continuous improvement across customer and operational workflows
- 6. Systems & Data Management
- Maintain accurate records in systems such as HubSpot and ERP/order management tools
- Ensure clean, reliable data across customer orders and communications
- Track and report on key service and operational metrics
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations, or related field (preferred)
- 3–6+ years of experience in customer service, operations, or order management
- Experience working cross-functionally with sales and operations teams
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills

Sales Development Representative (SDR) Internship
Summary of Position:
We’re seeking an inspired, value-aligned sales professional to serve as a Sales Development Representative. Your primary focus will be to research and qualify new target accounts, identify key decision-makers, and execute outbound prospecting using the latest prospecting tools, data insights, and AI, while accurately capturing all activity data in our CRM. New accounts will require nurturing through the sampling phase and will be handed off to an AE or sales leadership to close. The SDR role is a highly competitive, high-activity sales position responsible for building new relationships and fueling revenue growth for SmartSolve.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research target accounts using existing tools and other resources to find key contacts and titles within each account
- Conduct high-volume outbound prospecting activities, including cold-calling, email outreach, and social media engagement, to generate new leads and opportunities
- Build and maintain a pipeline of qualified leads and opportunities and manage prospecting activities and follow-up tasks
- Set qualified meetings for the Account Executive or Sr. Director of Sales; conduct early discovery and qualification, handle objections
- Achieve weekly and monthly prospecting benchmarks as assigned by Business Development Manager
Lab Assistant Internship
Summary of Position:
The Lab Assistant Intern will support R&D and product development efforts, contributing to the expansion of SmartSolve’s high-performance product portfolio and reinforcing the company’s role as an innovator through hands-on experimental work, standardized testing, and independent technical contribution. This role integrates systems engineering principles with polymer research, CTQ (Critical-to-Quality) evaluation, quality troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of processes and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead bench-scale formulation and processing trials for new resin and polymer materials, including optimization of pressure-sensitive adhesives and biopolymer formulations.
- Execute standardized CTQ and mechanical performance tests (ASTM D1876, ASTM D6195, ASTM E96, TAPPI 411, TAPPI 410) with full data accuracy, repeatability, and GLP documentation.
- Produce formal study reports that include narrative context, data, sample images, and actionable conclusions — in cross-functional, report-ready format.
- Troubleshoot material failures and processing anomalies — proposing root-cause hypotheses, designing targeted experiments, and documenting both failed and successful pathways.
- Maintain work-in-progress visibility in shared systems, updated at minimum weekly with current status and next action.
- Author and refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for new and existing equipment and test methods, written to a level of detail that allows independent execution by a new team member.
- Support production quality inspection — identifying specification deviations in real time and bridging R&D findings to actionable quality criteria for the production team.
- Assist in the development and implementation of quality control protocols, including calibrating lab equipment and follow safety protocols.
