When SmartSelf was created, we had the vision of delivering a new way of thinking, a new approach to flexible packaging. And we were able to patent a technology that is now coming alive in part because of this grant, which is called Pure No Zero. It’s a world’s first zero waste, one hundred percent bio based, flushable, all natural, principal dissolvable substrate. There’s a huge plastic pollution crisis. We’re gonna have more than five trillion bags of plastic produced every single year and consumed, and much of that plastic unfortunately ends up in our waterways, in our oceans. We have a vision to make packaging no longer trash that’s not only compelling, but it’s wrestling with one of the world’s greatest issues that we face in the foreseeable future. To be able to know that we’re doing something of significance to tackle that, to move the needle forward on that, that just makes this work that much more enthralling. The r and d center will allow us to do blending and compounding of all sorts of biopolymeric substrates that represent this vision of being pure, and it will allow us to make some of that raw material innovation that allows us to commercialize that technology. We love Northwest Ohio for multiple reasons. It’s a perfect location at the heart of America to get our goods shipped all across the country. But that’s not the only reason. We think there’s something special about Ohio and something special about the people of Northwest Ohio. They’re humble. They’re hungry. They come to work every day on time. They don’t have to have the glitz and glamour or the lights. They really care about getting the job done, and they care deeply about our freshwater systems. We have a unique makeup of people who care passionately about making sure that the ecological system and the human health systems remain the way that they ought to be. Being located in Northwest Ohio means a lot more than geography, a lot more than the location. It’s also about the people that live here, reside here, and make this happen.
