SmartSolve, a global leader in water-dispersible and bio-based packaging technologies, will debut its latest innovation, ReSolve™, at the upcoming World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) in São Paulo, Brazil. This highly anticipated technology is set to transform how brands think about recyclability and packaging circularity, supporting sustainable design without sacrificing performance.
ReSolve™ is the next generation of packaging material innovation from SmartSolve. Designed to work within existing recycling infrastructure, ReSolve is a multi-functional composite material made from SmartSolve’s proprietary water-dispersible paper paired with recyclable poly-material coatings.
Depending on the end-use application and disposal method, ReSolve can separate its material layers or allow printed inks to be washed away, resulting in the clean recovery of valuable plastic materials such as polyethylene (PE).
With flexible end-of-life options, ReSolve™ can be:
- Recycled directly with plastics,
- Recycled with paper waste streams, or
- Rinsed by the consumer to remove the dispersible paper layer before placing the plastic in curbside recycling.
“ReSolve is designed to meet the future of packaging, head-on,” said Alex Abbott, Chief Revenue Officer at SmartSolve. “We are innovating for a world where brands no longer have to choose between sustainability and functionality. SmartSolve continues to break new ground in how packaging can and should serve a circular economy.”
This material is currently in the Alpha stage of our R&D product process development with active testing already underway across multiple consumer product categories. The technology is fully compatible with existing print and packaging lines—offering brands a path to improve packaging design for recyclability.
Use cases for ReSolve™ include:
- Flow wraps and sachets in personal care and food
- Labels for PET bottles or flexible pouches
- Multi-layer packaging structures requiring clean material separation
Because ReSolve’s dispersible paper layer separates under standard washing or rinsing conditions, it reduces contamination in traditional recycling streams—a long-standing challenge for multi-layer packaging. By enabling the clean recovery of base materials, ReSolve helps brands increase the likelihood of meeting upcoming Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requirements, while also enhancing consumer trust with clearer on-pack recyclability claims.
Circular Packaging at Scale: ReSolve at the WCEF ’25
ReSolve will be featured at the Brazilian Packaging Association (ABRE) booth at the WCEF 2025. This event is a flagship global event focused on actionable solutions that accelerate circular economy adoption across sectors. WCEF’s 2025 theme is tropical solutions for sustainable growth, and will highlight the indispensable role of the production sector in driving the transition toward a circular economy.
“It’s time to move from conceptual to tangible solutions in packaging sustainability,” Abbott added. “That’s what SmartSolve is doing with ReSolve. As global regulations evolve and consumers demand accountability, we believe this material will become a cornerstone in the movement toward packaging that doesn’t end up as waste.”
SmartSolve’s Sustainability Advisory Board member, Bruno Pereira, will be on-site to share insights and demo the ReSolve material for packaging stakeholders. The team will be hosting a Global Webinar this July to engage in key discussions around circular design, material innovation, and policy alignment, reinforcing the company’s position as a bold voice for next-gen packaging solutions. More details to come soon.
